There are many ways to survive a recession. One of these methods is to determine many ways to save money on your electric, gas, or water bill. Here are some suggestions:
Sometimes we may think that the energy bill just comes in the mail with a random amount on it that we have to pay. When it is higher than we expect, we may get upset and complain about high energy prices. Yes, these prices have went up drastically in the recent past, but the most important factor in keeping energy bills low is you.
We have all grown up in a world characterized by cheap, plentiful energy. We flip on the light switch, and the light turns on. Most of the time, we may not think of it much past that. It’s just an automatic part of life.
Or, we may be cognizant that keeping on the lights and heat does cost a good amount of money, but we may only know how to conserve to a certain extent.
There really are so many ways to conserve, many of which may not be commonplace, that you can save a surprising amount of energy! Here are some ways in detail…

What’s the Biggest Environmental Challenge We Face?
October 25, 2008 at 3:17 pm (Environment)

We’re all a part of this earth. As soon as we forget that, all hell breaks loose.
The problems we face today are all a result of being disconnected. And let’s not forget ignorant.
So what’s the most challenging environmental issue we face today?
Public awareness.
This is actually a double-edged sword. On one side we have the fact that most people just don’t care. Or that they’re just totally unaware of the consequences of their actions.
On the second side we have a total disconnect with nature. For some reason most people think that we’re totally separate from nature. Perhaps they feel that we humans create our own nature. Or perhaps, again, they just don’t think on those terms.
But the reality is that we are nature.
Our lives and our planet suffer when we so stupidly think that we and nature are separate. Our lives are directly influenced by nature, and our actions directly affect our environment.
And as we do more to harm nature, we only harm ourselves.
So until society shakes these two enormous misconceptions about life, how can we change enough to truly stop this environmental crisis from consuming our quality of life?
I can only hope that the forward thinking individuals in business, government, and charity will implement the changes we need, like alternative renewable energy for example, while the rest of society catches up.
Hmm…was that a bit harsh? I actually don’t care if it was. I’m so sick and tired of peoples’ complacency.

10 Common Uses for Lemons

You might already know how to make the perfect lemonade, but were you also aware of what else lemons can do for you? When you are trying to find a good use for lemons, which will save you some money and help the environment by avoiding nasty chemicals, keep some of the following tips in mind.
1. Keep apples crisp
You may love apples, but you probably don’t love the way that they brown up when they are peeled and exposed to the air. You can keep your apples looking fresh and crisp by squeezing a little bit of lemon juice onto the bare flesh.
2. Only use a little bit of juice
When your recipe only calls for a small amount of lemon juice, you’ll find that you don’t have to waste the whole lemon. Just pierce the lemon with the tines of a fork and squeeze enough out for your recipe. This allows you to keep the rest in the fridge.
3. Getting all of the juice out
To get all of the juice out of your lemon, wait until it hits room temperature, and then roll it around on a hard surface until it has been softened a little bit. You’ll find that you can get a lot more juice in this manner.
4. Clean your microwave
When you want to make sure that the stains on your microwave come out easily, make up a cup of water with four tablespoons of lemon juice added. Bring the mixture up to a boil using the microwave, and you’ll find that the stains are quite easy to remove.
5. Clean your fingernails
When you want to make sure that your nails are clean and tidy, dig them into some raw lemon rind. This will let you keep your nails clean and smelling fresh.
6. Cleaning fixtures
If you are dealing with chrome, copper or brass, rub some lemon juice onto the fixtures and then rinse it off. Buff the surface with a soft cloth to get the best shine out of this treatment.
7. Lighten hair
This works the best if your hair is brown or blond to start with. Apply lemon juice to your hair, either solidly or in streaks, and then sit in the sun for an hour or so. You can get a gentle bleaching effect this way that is quite mild.
8. For your laundry
When you want to whiten your clothing, put half a cup of lemon juice into the rinse cycle and then hang your clothes up to dry.
9. Cleaner dishes
When you want to make sure that your dishwashing detergent is really going the distance, add a teaspoon of lemon juice to it and you’ll find it helps remove grease.
10. Cleaning glass
When you are tired of using corrosive cleaners on your glass, mix four tablespoons of lemon juice with warm water and apply it with a sponge to your windows or mirrors before rinsing it off.
